My thoughts on the TTC fare hike – http://www.thestar.com/news/transportation/article/1102203–ttc-approves-10-cent-fare-hike?bn=1
Service is being cut while fares go up. It’s not a fair that another 10 cent hike is there when TTC employees are getting paid atleast $30 an hour and the guy who takes your tokens can get paid up to $100K! If the employees and unions can be less greedy then maybe they wouldn’t have to hike up the prices all the time. I find it interesting that they have to “look” in the budget to find money -“Also Wednesday, the commission decided to find $2 million to continue Wheel-Trans service for about 800 ambulatory dialysis patients who need to make 5,000 trips a week for treatment. The dialysis trips would continue for the first six months of 2012, providing time to lobby the province for funding” and also ““It’s up to councillors now to find the remaining money to avoid service cuts in the TTC,” said Jamie Kilpatrick, of the Toronto Environmental Alliance.” It’s always easy to find the money to pay the employees more, but when it comes to service you have to go and “find” it and it’s up to the “councillors”. I don’t ride the trains or buses much, but for those college students or seniors or even regular people on a budget, these hikes that keep coming are going to hurt them. It seems that for everything the cost is going up.
My next article will be on the rising cost of houses. I would just like to tell all my readers I am sorry for not keeping up with the blog. Things have just gotten so busy for me!
